I bet most of us has heard from our parents, go to bed early, wake up early, that’s the way you should be every morning. Does going to bed help with early morning work? Of course. But does it mean if people sleep early and wake up early that means they’re automatic more intelligent than those who stay up late? Not necessarily. Often people mistake people that stay up late, thinking they’re “unorganized, lazy, dumb”. No, there’s more to the person that stays up late. I bet sometimes people don’t even know if person is a night owl or an early bird. It’s very easy for someone to look that they’ve got 8 hours of sleep when they’ve only got 3. Study shows that humans can decide which sleeping pattern we want. As an article by Satoshi Kanazawa said “However, humans, unlike other mammalian species, have the unique ability, consciously and cognitively, to override their internal biological clock and its rhythmic outputs.” So next time when you’re thinking about changing up your schedule, it might be a good idea to not worry so much about if you’re going to bed late than you’re killing your brain cells.
Let’s start with the early birds. These people tend to follow this schedule of certain time waking up and around certain time they’ll have to go to bed. When people follow a schedule, they usually have this perfect amount of sleep they need. No less, or more. People that wake up early mostly can be more disciplined as they have to follow this tight schedule every night and morning. They may be able to stay focus on a task longer, getting some stuff done quicker. For those that somehow are able to get up early in the morning without an alarm, they can be more of an enthusiastic person. Or enthusiastic for that day. These people have a goal for the day and they’ll stay on task throughout. These people are the ones you see that follows the rule 24/7 and have way more energy needed to start the day off. They run the hallway screaming and jumping while everyone else is looking like a zombie. That can be either super distracting, or adding more live around people.
Then the night owls. Again these people were seen by some others as unorganized, less intelligent, and lazy. That’s not true. In fact, studies show that people who stay up late are tend to be MORE intelligent. Multiple articles said it. There, not all night owls are stupid. Plus, people who stay up late think more. One of the main reasons why they don’t sleep is because their mind is distracted by lots of things that they can’t solve or get around. Night owls can be very curious, as they want to explore more, using their mind to think beyond what they know. They can also be very caring, sometimes care too much. Either for a person or a thing or for themselves, night owls can not forget or let go of what they’re thinking since it holds an important space in their heart or mind. By that they can also be hard workers, knowing that they have a job to accomplish and they wouldn’t rest until they’ve finish.
I’m not saying switch from whatever you’re doing right now and start sleeping late or getting up super early. If what you’re doing right now works perfectly fine for you then great, stay who you are. I just want you to know that being on both sides has their own benefits and don’t judge someone by their choice.
